Zydeco on Cape Cod radio

If you look at our web site, you’ll see we have listed radio stations around the country with dedicated zydeco shows. The list includes stations in Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia.

We’ve just learned of a new show: percussionist Sam Holmstock’s “The Gulf Coast and Beyond,” which airs every second Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. on the non-profit community station WOMR 92.1 FM in Provincetown, Massachusetts, along with WFMR 91.3 FM in nearby Orleans. The show is mostly zydeco, with a bit of Cajun thrown in. At the end of the show, Holmstock plays “Afro Cuban Rumba, Haitian Rara, West African Sabar, Dununba and Djembe drumming” which he calls “all of the things that made Louisiana musics what they are today.” For those living outside Cape Cod, the station also broadcasts online.

Musicians who want Holmstock to spin their discs can send them to WOMR, P.O. Box 975, Provincetown MA 02657.
